Position Overview:
The Special Education Teacher provides specialized instruction to each student assigned to them according to their Individual Education Plan (IEP), or as needed. Special Education Teacher(s) report to the Director of Special Education and the School Principal. Special Education Teacher caseloads will be determined by assigning students to specific Met schools across campuses, which allows for equitable distribution of the total Title One/Special Education population among the Special Education Teacher(s).
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
● Case load of 20-25 students
● Interview incoming families and communicate information about the service delivery model at The Met
● Case management: Schedule weekly meetings with each assigned student’s advisor and other specialists to ensure that service delivery meets the mandates of the IEP including accommodations and modifications in the general education setting
● Meet weekly with Building Principal
● Meet monthly with Director of Special Education and Building Principal for caseload review
● Coordinate service delivery with the multidisciplinary team
● Track dates and coordinate meetings for IEPs and 504 with all stakeholders
● Maintain compliance with IEP requirements
● Develop student IEP within the RIDE mandated time frame
● Develop and update 504 plans as indicated
● Track evaluation and re-evaluation dates for caseload students and coordinate schedule with Administrative Assistant
● Complete all Medicaid paperwork, including annual case management plans and monthly logs
● Comply with all documentation as mandated through The Met, RIDE and IDEA
● Provide consultation and documentation for students seeking support services for college classes
● Complete educational evaluations and report findings/recommendations to Focused Intervention Team, student and family
● Help train advisors in intervention strategies and consult with the RtI/ PST process
● Meet weekly with Title One/Learning Specialists to discuss assigned students’ progress and needs.
● Generate trimester IEP progress reports for each assigned student
● Meet and document mandated contact hours with assigned students
● Coordinate the development of a post-Met transition plan
● Make student referrals to ORS/BHDDH as appropriate
● Responsible for maintaining all required paperwork for student files (Medicaid documentation, trimester reports, IEPs, IDEA mandated documents, Summary of Student Performance)
● Participate in the RI Educator Evaluation System and/or Met Educator Evaluation System
● Participate in periodic observations from Special Education Director or Building Principal
● Collaborate with team members to share resources and provide PD to staff as needed
● Additional responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.

Required Qualifications & Skills:
● Rhode Island Certified Secondary Special Education Teacher
● Bachelor’s degree
● Must be passionate and positive
● Must be organized with the ability to multitask.
● Be familiar with the RI process
● Be able to work with people from a variety of disciplines
● Support the philosophy of The Met which focuses on individualized education for all students
