New ‘Exploring Majors’ program part of larger effort to prevent dropping out.
“Among the students RIC hopes will benefit from Exploring Majors are Valentin Taveras. A graduate of the MET School in Providence, Taveras, 18, is the first in his family of eight siblings to attend a four-year college. (His older brother is enrolled at the Community College of Rhode Island.)
Taveras showed early promise as an entrepreneur. During his sophomore year at the MET School, he developed a line of all-natural shoe products by substituting borax and baking soda for the ingredients used in commercial polishes.”
